Volkswagen de Mexico is recognized as a leading manufacturer in sustainability within the Merco ESG Responsibility Ranking 2024.

Volkswagen de México was recognized as the leading company in the automotive sector in the 12th edition of the Merco ESG Responsibility Ranking. ranking of the Merco ESG Responsibility Ranking (2024). With its presence in this list for over a decade, the company led by Holger Nestler in Mexico reaffirms its commitment to addressing sustainability as a fundamental and cross-cutting pillar in its strategy and in its relationship with stakeholders. 

 In the general Merco ranking (Corporate Reputation Monitor), the performance of the 100 leading companies in the country is measured in terms of the environment (E), their relationship with employees, customers, and society (S), as well as their ethical standards and corporate governance (G); all through the most comprehensive reputational evaluation methodology in the world. In this group, Volkswagen de México ranked 33rd this year.

ESG principles were incorporated into the global agenda in 2004 when the United Nations (UN) called on the world's largest organizations to consider them in their corporate responsibility. Since then, companies of all sizes have responded to this call and incorporated it into their models. Currently, the German automaker has an area focused on integrating and enhancing these criteria. 

The objectivity of our ranking is guaranteed by the commitments to independence, transparency, and rigor of our methodology, which is public, with analysis, research, and external verification by KPMG; furthermore, the evaluation follows the standards and codes of the global regulatory organization ESOMAR, and is based on more than 100 objective indicators for each company with 25 sources of information." commented Enrique ​ Mañas Morales, Director of Merco, during the recognition ceremony. 

 Among the ESG results of Volkswagen de México are the use of clean energy in its engine production plant in Silao and vehicle plant in Puebla. By the end of 2024, 93.6 percent of its electricity came from wind sources. It has also achieved a reduction in CO emissions2 by 72.7 percent compared to 2010, planted over one million trees, and stored 1.7 million tons of CO.2

Since 2008, Volkswagen de México has been involved in over 4,000 hectares of ecosystems in Mexico. Among the most notable projects is "Bambú," which focuses on the recovery of 355 hectares and the planting of 100,000 plants; Selva Baja, covering 1,500 hectares and 150,000 native trees; and Cuenca de la Esperanza and La Soledad, with 800 hectares and 400,000 trees. In 2024, it also announced its commitment to the UN Global Compact, pledging to support its Ten Principles on Human Rights, Labor Standards, Environment, and Anti-corruption. 

The ESG Responsibility recognition also adds to the one received in October 2024 by the same monitor, as the company with the best reputation in the Merco Empresas México 2024 Ranking.
