Sales of hybrid and electric cars increase in Guanajuato, but there are still few charging stations.

From January to June of this year, hybrid and electric vehicle sales in Guanajuato and grew by 71.8% compared to the same semester last year, rising from 1,028 to 1,766 units, reported Arturo González Palomino, president of the Mexican Association of Automotive Dealers (AMDA) in Guanajuato.

He specified that last year, the sale of these types of vehicles ended with 2,466 units, so the outlook is positive.

"We are almost matching last year's total sales, and we're only halfway through the year, and there's also growth in what we're offering in dealerships," he noted.

However, he pointed out that despite the demand, there are few charging stations for electric vehicles, with only 120 available, while 3,800 are needed to significantly boost sales..

The AMDA president in Guanajuato mentioned that the government would need to invest in these stations, with initial locations at the entrances to major cities, such as gas stations. However, he emphasized that this would require a change in the national electrical regulations, and until it becomes a viable business, growth will not be triggered.
